Geel
The city of Geel, located in the south-eastern parts of Flanders, in De Kempen. It counts about 35000 inhabitants. It is internationally famous for its unique way of dealing with mentally ill people. Instead of being institutionalised, they are integrated in the daily life of voluntary families. Because of this, Geel obtained its title of honour City of Charity. This family-tending stems from the worshipping of saint Dimpna, an Irish king's daughter who according to legend was beheaded in a fit of insanity by her royal father in our city. After all these centuries saint Dimpna is still omnipresent in Geel.
Hasselt
Located in the Limburg Province approximately 75 km from the City of Brussels, Hasselt is the capital of the Flemish Province of Limburg. It counts about 68000 inhabitants and is the capital of the province Limburg. The city is known for its attractive commercial shopping area, for its museums and for its famous Jenever. From April until the end of October you can also go to the Japanese garden. With its 2.5 hectares it is the largest Japanese garden in Europe.
Leuven
Leuven is at 20 km from the City of Brussels and it is THE university city of Flanders. it counts about 90000 inhabitants. It is known for its medieval, gothic townhall, the St. Peter’s Chruch, the librabry (rebuild after the world wars), the beguinage, Inbev, an important brewery, is situated on the north side of the city. Its university is founded in 1425 and is one of a very important university, not only in Flanders but also in Europe.
